The key to being successful at working from home is
maximizing your productivity. The best way to ensure you get the most out of
your home-office days is to create the ultimate home office for yourself.
Start with a dedicated workspace. Whether it’s a bedroom
turned office, or a portion of a room that you will use for work, have a space
that is dedicated to just working. A desk and chair that is the proper height
for your body, the necessities (tape, staples, pens, pencils, etc), and
depending on your work, any other things needed to accomplish your tasks. For
graphic designers that may include a computer, mouse, keyboard and drawing
tablet, for a writer it may just be a laptop and printer. For those who design
or craft handmade objects, your workspace may include a worktable instead of a
desk. Have, at the ready a whiteboard for ideas you can revisit later, a radio
or access to music or low background noise, and a bottle of water to keep your
body and brain hydrated.
Aside from having a clean, dedicated workspace and the
furniture and accessories, your ultimate home office should be without some
things in order to ensure productivity. Eliminate distractions; leave your
phone in a separate room, and your food in the kitchen.
